Microsoft Is Ending Its Surface Plus Financing Program

Just one year after its launch, Microsoft's Surface Pro financing program came to an end. Microsoft says (through OnMsft) that it stopped accepting new users on Friday, but says existing users will be able to finalize their plans or update their devices.

Microsoft introduced the program a year ago, which allowed customers to distribute the cost of a new Surface Pro in two years with a payment plan called Klarna Financing. It would also allow them to upgrade to a new device after 18 months, as long as customers returned their devices in good condition.

In its frequently asked questions, Microsoft says it is phasing out the program after "a lot of thought and consideration". He says that existing Klarna plans will be respected, and that customers who are "up to date with 18 monthly payments" will still be able to update their device. According to Engadget, Microsoft will also close its Surface Plus Portal on September 30, and customers with questions about the Klarna program will have to contact the company directly.
